A Clean Well Lighted Place - 1545 Words

Ernest Miller Hemingway, in 1933 transcribed a story called A Clean Well-Lighted Place in a Spanish Cafà ©. Ernest focused on two waiters and a patron that frequents the cafà © nightly. One late night this the same old man was getting drunk as usual, and wasn’t ready to leave. The young waiter was getting upset, because he wanted him to leave because he was ready to go home. The older waiter was telling him, to calm down it isn’t that serious, we have to wait until the last customer goes home. So if it’s after closing hours so be it, but the younger waiter was unhappy with the concept of the business. Hemingway’s gloomy fiction is about how people, overcome being lonely so they visit the late night cafà ©. This particular customer which loves his brandy grieves, from all the emptiness that he has in his life right now. He says a couple of times, during the story, that he wished that he had a wife, sitting at home waiting for his return. On the other hand the older waiter knows exactly what he’s going through, he doesn’t have w wife either. Hemingway’s have a vast deeper meaning about the fiction story. The waiters always work from open to close, it’s just the two of them no other workers. So sometimes it’s torment for the younger waiter, since he has a girlfriend at home, waiting for him. But in the cafà © it’s a lot quieter, than most places.
